Fire Safety Education

Meet Sparky the Fire Dog®, our mascot for fire safety awareness!
Sparky® helps promote fire prevention education for children and families throughout the community.

Since 1951, Sparky the Fire Dog® has been the official mascot of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). He is a widely recognized fire safety icon who is beloved by children and adults alike.

Official 75th-anniversary logo for Sparky the Fire Dog, featuring the Dalmatian mascot in his fire helmet with '75' written in bold, celebratory text.

Although the appearance of Sparky® has changed over the years, he has always been a Dalmatian donning firefighter gear—a nod to the history of this dog breed’s involvement in America’s fire service.

Community Involvement

In addition to emergency response, MFPD participates in several community initiatives, including:

  • Chill at the Ville Car Cruise-In
  • MFPD Water Ball Tournament during Martinsville Block Party
