State Representative Adam Niemerg paid a visit to the Martinsville firehouse on Friday, February 21st, where Fire Chief Chris Davidson extended heartfelt appreciation for his ongoing support.
The visit coincided with the announcement of a significant federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Regional award totaling $427,000, which will be shared between Marshall and Martinsville. This funding allocation aims to enhance operational capabilities by outfitting local firefighters with essential equipment.
The grant will provide 43 air packs, 86 bottles, 4 Rapid Intervention Team pack (RIT-Pak) bags and 53 air masks, effectively equipping approximately fifty firefighters..
Among the notable features of the new Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) are a thermal imaging camera and an integrated drag rescue loop designed to facilitate the safe extraction of incapacitated firefighters from hazardous situations.

Under Chief Davidson’s leadership since 2020, the Martinsville Fire Protection District has secured nearly one million dollars in grant funding, largely attributed to the diligent efforts of Chris and his wife Nikki Davidson, who spearhead the grant application process.
Chief Davidson also acknowledged the instrumental support from State Senator Chapin Rose, former State Senator Darren Bailey, and the new Martinsville Fire Board.
This collaborative effort has successfully secured funding for a range of critical upgrades, including colored fire hoses, digital radios, foam extinguishing equipment, turnout gear, helmets, lockers, a specialized heavy-duty washing machine and $36,000 worth of rescue tools.
Chief Davidson highlighted that these investments have resulted in a notable improvement in the Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating for the district, a factor crucial in determining insurance premiums, thereby significantly benefiting the entire community.
In addition to these advancements, the Martinsville Fire Protection District recently acquired the property at 202 W. Cumberland Street, which will serve as the site of the community’s new firehouse.

Two grants have been applied for and plans are being made to demolish the existing house on the property, paving the way for the construction of a modern facility that will better accommodate the department’s growing needs and improve emergency response capabilities for the area.
