The City of Martinsville is excited to announce that pickleball will be coming to town soon! We are pleased to be able to offer an outlet for recreation and physical health to our community members. “Pickleball, a mash-up of ping-pong, tennis and badminton, has clinched the top spot as the fastest growing sport in the country for three years running, with 8.9 million players in the United States in 2023, according to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association, up from 4.8 million in 2022”.
A new pickleball court will be put in near a newly constructed basketball court at the City ball park site. This is, in part, possible with a Community Grant partnership with the Martinsville School District. We thank MCUSD for their support and investment into our community.
The City welcomes donors for additional components such as fencing, surfacing, netting, and lighting to offset part of the expense of this project. If you or your organization would like to donate to this community partnership project, you may send in donations to PO Box 340, Martinsville, IL 62442 or drop off at city hall at 55 W Cumberland St.
